The Pockets Progression is an ever expanding network of human beings, drawn together by the law of attraction... It is also an ongoing social experiment.
A pocket usually exists for a short time, when a specific group of individuals unite to serve a common goal, e.g. putting on an event. That acheived, we all go back to our own lives until the next calling (but something has changed!)...
New pockets are formed on a cyclical basis, sometimes with a similar, or completely different group of individuals, but typically with Laura and John at it's centre...
This rhythm ensures that people only participate if it is beneficial for them, if it feels right to be in the pocket at that particular time; if the project resonates with them personally. Rather than be motivated by feelings of obligation, loyalty, or financial reward, one listens to the souls desire. Feelings of excitement mean it is right!
In terms of theatre-making, we have two approaches: professional & underground. Usually a project is more suited to one approach or the other, but sometimes it is circumstantial. With the professional approach, we get money. This enables us to pay ourselves, buy new equipment, develop the work over a more concentrated/longer period, employ 'experts' and reach a wider audience...
The absence of money is never an excuse for a project to fail to come into fruition- a new play must live!
With the underground approach we rely entirely on human spirit. Some areas are compromised but we can also enjoy certain freedoms that the professional approach denies; the emphasis changes entirely! This is The Pockets Progression social experimentation in it's purest form...
People attracted to The Pockets Progression, tend to posess certain characteristics & share a similar set of assumptions. I suppose you could look at it in terms of priorities...
Our priorities lean towards spiritual growth, or in other words, 'self actualization'. We wish to transcend the ego, which gets preoccupied with petty annoyances & survival (the need for competition, power & money), and instead to serve one another, in order to flourish and become...
Our relationships therefore, are based apon unconditional acceptance, trust and equality. It is necessary to have leaders, but the leaders do not presume to be better than the led. Everyone has equal value. It is essential for us all to speak our truth, without fear, and to be honest!
And so this is the progression...
As individuals we progress in terms of self growth- learning new skills, rising to challenges, building relationships, self-acceptance, confidence, creativity etc etc. The ecstasy of unconditional surrender to the unknown!
As a community we are a source of inspiration, a wave of spiritual power, a revolutionary movement! We are all of these things, because by coming together and creating, by providing ourselves & others with an experience, by triumphing over fear and doubt we are flourishing & becoming & remembering...
As humanity we need not sink, victims of our govenments, prisoners of society and the trappings of capitalistic value systems, cynicism, an inevitably dead planet etc etc...
One pocket. One little pocket. And then two.... One person. One little person and then two and then three and then fifty... Three pockets and one hundred people. An event generating two hundred people... Where three depressed ones suddenly see! Then four pockets including those three people who found purpose. And so on. It starts small. In someone's flat. But once a few human beings get together, magic begins to happen. And when you feel the magic, there is nothing to fear. And when there is no fear, we are left with love. And then we able to heal the world!
